During our 2nd day here in Baguio, we decided to visit Burnham Park after our lunch in SM City Baguio. Since we had all day to go around the town, we head straight to the park and tried their famous bike rental.

Is Baguio safe?

An unfortunate event in Burnham Park

A few years back you can rent a 2 wheel bike around the park however now, they have upgraded it to a 4 wheel bike/go-kart look. And you also have an option for a 2 driver bike which my sister and my kid rented for 30 minutes for only 150 pesos. It was fun until after we decided to try boating on the other side of the park.

And right that moment, my sister found out that her mobile phone is missing in her khaki pocket. I immediately called her phone and it was ringing, I told her to go around the bike park and ask each and every bike operator if they saw a mobile phone or maybe someone found it gave it to the lost and found a desk.

Well, you are here in the Philippines and chances are any gadgets will not be brought back to you especially if the place does not have CCTV camera. Well, lucky for us the park doesn’t have any. WTF!

We tried calling the phone and after 10minutes of trying someone answered but dropped my call. I sent an SMS saying “PLEASE BRING BACK MY SISTER’S PHONE” and then tried calling it again but still no luck. So my sister borrowed my daughter’s tablet and download FIND PHONE APP. After signing in using my sister’s email account we finally located her phone and it was in my View Park Jeepney terminal. We went to the area and after arriving the location of the phone changed to Wright Park, and our cab went to that area hoping that if we rang her phone using the APP we may be able to see who’s holding it. We tried and tried but still no go and we couldn’t see anyone holding it.

Phone

We stayed in Wright Park for almost 20 minutes but no luck. Someone told my sister that any snatcher in Baguio will go directly to the Mines View Park Jeepney Terminal to sell those mobile phones etc. So, for us…….. Baguio is not safe! or maybe Filipinos is not HONEST to bring back things that are found and missing.

It’s sad and irritating at the same time. I wish the Philippines and its people will be like other countries like Singapore and Australia, that whenever someone dropped a wallet or phones in their pocket, the person who found it will give it to the authorities or they will try to contact the owner so they can have their things back.

Can we always blame it to poverty that our people will continue doing this? Or should we teach our children to be honest so when they become an adult they will have decency and morel to be a good citizen?

Update!

After finishing this diary, someone called my sister and the person who found the mobile phone said that they were staying in Grand View Residences Condominium, gave their room number and full name.

Immediately my sister went to their condo-hotel and she got her phone back.

Then I guess there are still honest people in this world. Thank you universe!
